Elbow Arthritis and Trigger Finger or Finger Detachment

Elbow Arthritis: If elbow pain is making it harder to do things such as carrying groceries, playing tennis, or swinging a hammer, arthritis might be to blame

Trigger Finger: A prolapsed intervertebral disc is a technical term for what is commonly called a slipped disc. These discs are placed between each of the vertebrae of the spine and pose as shock absorbers. Not only will a slipped disc cause pain in the area of the disc, but also in regions that the nerve controls, such as an arm or a leg.

Finger Detachment: Traumatic amputation, commonly known as limb or finger detachment, refers to the loss of a body part in an accident or an injury. If the accident or injury results in complete amputation of a part, the severed part can be sometimes reattached to the body (if the severed part and the stump are treated with proper care and precaution)

SYMPTOMS

Trigger Finger Symptoms

Signs and symptoms of trigger finger may progress from mild to severe and include:

  • Finger stiffness, particularly in the morning
  • A popping or clicking sensation as you move your finger
  • Tenderness or a bump (nodule) in the palm at the base of the affected finger
  • Finger catching or locking in a bent position, which suddenly pops straight
  • Finger locked in a bent position, which you are unable to straighten

Trigger fingers can affect any finger, including the thumb. More than one finger may be affected at a time, and both hands might be involved. Triggering is usually more pronounced in the morning, while firmly grasping an object or when straightening your finger.

Elbow Arthritis Symptoms

You may notice:

  • Swelling
  • Stiffness
  • Pain
  • A clicking or snapping feeling
  • Symptoms that are worse on the outside of the joint
  • More pain when you rotate or extend your arm
  • Trouble moving your elbow
  • The joint locks up or gives out when you move it
  • Tingling in your elbow
  • Numbness in your ring and pinky fingers

Finger Detachment symptoms

The symptoms of limb or finger detachment are as follows:

  • Complete or partial cutting off of a body part
  • Minimal or severe bleeding depending on the injury
  • Severe pain
  • Crushed body tissues

TREATMENTS

Home Remedies

It may help to cut back on certain activities or sports. Or you could rest your elbow after exercise to relieve stress. Heating pads can loosen stiff joints or relax muscles. Ice eases symptom flare-ups and swelling.

Surgery

You might need surgery if other treatments don’t work. Procedures for arthritis include:

  • Arthroscopy
  • Synovectomy
  • Arthroplasty.

Severe Bone Fracture Treatments

Your treatment will depend on several things, including the cause of your arthritis. Your doctor might recommend one or more of these.

Non-Surgical Treatements

  • Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs), including ibuprofen and naproxen, ease pain, inflammation, and swelling. If necessary, your doctor might prescribe stronger drugs or shots of cortisone, a steroid that can ease pain for a few months.
  • Elbow braces and splints offer extra support for the joint. And physical therapy can help you avoid stress on your elbow, build strength and mobility, and manage pain.

Trigger Finger Symptoms

Trigger finger treatment varies depending on its severity and duration.

Medications

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs — such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB) or naproxen (Aleve) — may relieve the pain but are unlikely to relieve the swelling constricting the tendon sheath or trapping the tendon.

Therapy

Conservative noninvasive treatments may include:

  • Rest:- Avoid activities that require repetitive gripping, repeated grasping or the prolonged use of vibrating hand-held machinery until your symptoms improve. If you can’t avoid these activities altogether, padded gloves may offer some protection.
  • splint:- Your doctor may have you wear a splint at night to keep the affected finger in an extended position for up to six weeks. The splint helps rest the tendon
  • Stretching exercises. Your doctor may also suggest gentle exercises to help maintain mobility in your finger.

Surgical and other procedures

If your symptoms are severe or if conservative treatments haven’t helped, your doctor might suggest:

  • Steroid injection
  • Percutaneous release
  • Surgery

Finger Detachment Treatments

Surgery or an operation to reattach a severed finger is also called replantation. Your doctor or surgeon will look at the amputated finger or fingers carefully with a microscope to find out if it can be reattached. Partially severed fingertips or fingers are more likely to be reattached. Full-length fingers severed at their base may be more difficult to reattach.
