Bone and Joint Replacement surgery involves any damaged or arthritic joint/bone that is removed and replaced with a plastic, metal or ceramic device known as a prosthesis which provides an easy movement of joints.
Bone Replacement surgeries are suggested when a section of bone is missing or there is a gap between the bones. For instance, an accident can create gaps between the bones.
Allografts
Under this, the organ or tissue is extracted from the non identical donors to be placed in the patient needing the bone surgeryAllografts are used for long bone construction like arms and legs, hip or knee.
Autografts-
Under this, the bonel is extracted from the same person such as your ribs, hips or pelvis. This procedure has a higher success ratio as the tissue used from the same person’s body.
Synthetic Materials
Synthetic materials are becoming more popular these days. This procedure uses artificially produced materials such as calcium phosphates to create artificial bone. The process to place synthetic grafts is simple. Joint Replacement Surgery is a process to relieve chronic joint pain and improve the movement in the joints. Hip and Knee replacement are the most commonly performed joint replacement surgeries. There are several different types of joint surgeries that are conducted based on the joint’s immobility and pain intensity. An orthopaedic surgeon examines your joints and discusses every option that best fits your issue.
The most common types of joint replacement surgery include:
Under this type of surgery, all the damaged parts of the joint are removed and replaced with artificial implants. They improve the mobility of the joints and provide significant relief in the pain. This type of surgery is generally conducted on people with acute arthritis or joint injury. Some common types of total joint replacement surgery include knee, shoulder and hip.
Under hip replacement surgery, a portion of the hip joint is replaced with an artificial implant known as a prosthesis.. This surgery is helpful for people with hip arthritis,  hip pain or hip injuries like improper growing hip or broken hip.
There are three types of hip replacement surgeries. The most common type is total hip replacement surgery also known as arthroplasty. In this surgery, the damaged or worn-out section of the hip is replaced with artificial implants. Here, the socket of your hip is replaced with a durable plastic cup which sometimes includes a titanium metal shell. The femoral head is removed and replaced with a ball made up of metal alloy or ceramic. The new ball is then attached to the metal which is inserted into the top of the femur.Â
Partial Hip Replacement – A partial hip replacement (a hemiarthroplasty) involves replacing the femoral head (the ball) only and not the acetabulum (socket). This procedure is used more in older patients suffering from a hip fracture and is an option when the socket is healthy.Â
The third type of hip replacement surgery is hip resurfacing where the socket and the femoral head is replaced in younger or active patients.
Knee replacement is an orthopaedic surgery which helps in reducing knee pain (known as osteoarthritis.)and improving the mobility of knee joints. The portion of bones under this surgery are removed and replaced with artificial implants.
Knee replacement surgery is recommended to people having acute knee arthritis where the knee cartilage is worn off and the knee has become uneven, pitted or eroded. A knee injury or any severe knee condition.
There are mainly two types of knee replacement surgery. First, total knee replacement surgery involves the replacement of the entire knee including the patella (kneecap). These are replaced with artificial surfaces. Second, partial knee replacement surgery where only the damaged part of the knee is replaced and treated with artificial material.
Spine injuries consist of spinal cord injury which may occur from the sudden trauma to the vertebrae. It can cause huge damage to the entire body as the nerves are damaged and are unable to communicate with the brain.
Sometimes, fractured or broken bones can damage the spinal cord and its nerves. And in severe cases, the spinal cord is entirely broken or split.
Spinal cord injuries can be partial or complete. Partial injury means a part of the spinal cord is broken whereas, complete injury, the entire spinal cord is damaged (total paralysis)
The orthopaedic disorders and ailments result in severe pain, inability to perform your daily tasks, inconvenience. They may also lead to chronic and long-term pain along with medical abnormalities, if not treated on time. Some of the common orthopaedic problems include:
